Today we met with Skanska and learned about their large hospital projects in London. We started out the morning with a talk by their in-house counsel, Mr. Lenihan, and Mr. Gilman about PFI/PPP methods of project delivery. We then were hosted to a wonderful buffet lunch and then met with project managers Ian and Harry, who told us all about the projects, along with the incredible history of the buildings.
David, their IT specialist, gave us a fascinating presentation of the BIM modeling used on this project. Skanska is building/refurbishing two hospitals, the Royal London Hospital, and the St. Bartholomew Hospital. St. Barts has been a hospital since 1193, and is an amazingly beautiful building full of history. Michael Nathan with Skanska kindly set up several Skanska people to talk about the hospital projects, and then we got to go into the famous St. Bart’s fountain area, and then went up to the roof of a neighboring building to get a good view of the project.
Tyler Lee, a former TAMU student who works with Skanska in San Antonio, met us in London and toured with us during our Skanska trip. It was very nice of Skanska to fly him over while we were there, and great to have a fellow Aggie to hang out with for a day or two. Our Skanska day was very information and they are a great company. The first picture is from the Skanska visit- the rest are some AWESOME pics that Adam took previously… ENJOY!!
